Extremely luxurious bars like Panacea are a little bit like Marmite; some people think that they are the bee’s knees, while others would prefer, well, anything else. However, the comparisons between Panacea and Marmite end here. Marmite is affordable and simple, whereas Panacea is expensive, seriously beautiful and one of the most luxurious bars in Manchester. After undergoing an £900,000 revamp last year, Panacea is back – and it is ready to give customers the chance to experience the best of the best. If you appreciate extravagance and indulgence, Panacea is the perfect bar for you.
When you walk through the doors to Panacea, you step into another world. You feel your everyday self slip away, and you become a Very Important Person who is in a Very Important Venue. It’s all about the wow factor in here, from the impressive glass murals that cover the walls to the expensive and spacious leather booths that could probably seat 20 people. This bar is often called the best in Manchester, and you can see why the second you walk in. After all, this is the nightclub that went “Yes, I know we have mosaic glass walls, and mosaic bars and tables, but it just will not do. We need MORE. How about a 3D wall with spotlights? Yeah, that’ll do it.” However, there is always a price to pay with a venue this fabulous. People who want to get through the exclusive doors will have to make sure they are wearing their finest clothes – and if you’re a woman, high heels are mandatory. Ouchie.

If you like cocktails, you’ll be spoilt for choice; the bar is crammed with spirits from all across the word, and the bartenders are happy to go through the menu with you and offer recommendations. They know exactly what they are talking about, and they seem genuinely happy to talk shop. However, we recommend that you pass on bottle service unless you’re a literal millionaire. Of course, if you have the money feel free to splash out – but know that you won’t be the first or last person to do so. The music is consistent; whether it is a Wednesday or Saturday night, you can expect funky House tunes with a chilled Ibiza vibe.
This is a bar that is frequented by the beautiful, the talented, and the overpaid of Manchester. It is also a great place for celebrity spotting; football players and soap stars can be seen in here every week - we even spotted someone from Corrie when we visited. As well as celebrities, the venue also attracts young professionals, models and aspiring WAGS. In Panacea you can watch the rituals of the WAG hopefuls, as they arrive in groups of two or three, surrounded by a cloud of expensive perfume. These beautiful ladies can be seen huddled in groups, peering around for possible footballer sightings. It’s actually a lot of fun to watch (although it would be even better if David Attenborough was narrating the scene.) While the clientele might sound a bit posey, it is a generally nice crowd. Most people are happy to chat to strangers, and there’s no chance that you’d catch a fight breaking out between two men who’ve had a few too many – the slightly terrifying bouncers will make sure of that.
Depending on your expectations, you will have a fantastic night or a terrible night at Panacea. If you’ve got big aspirations and you like to surround yourself with opulence, this is exactly what you are looking for. If you’re out looking for cheap drinks and no queues, you’ll be disappointed by this bar. And if you’re wondering what Panacea means? Here’s the definition, courtesy of Google; Panacea - a solution or remedy for all difficulties or diseases. However, we decided to think of a more fitting description; Panacea – a place for people who have a taste for the finer things in life (like Veuve Clicquot and seriously expensive hair extensions).
