You may hear table service and think 'big deal,' but we're not talking drinks here, mate. Suburb SW11 not only have some of the most inventive cocktails in the district, but get this: order one of their 'Volcanic Rock dishes' and they will physically cook your steak at your side (or rather on your table). Watch your steak reach it's perfect pink-ness and then immediately chow down on the most made to order fillet of all time. With Clapham's fast growing bar district on the rapid rise, independent bar Suburb's unique take on the drinking and dining experience is but another reason why South West is quickly becoming one of our favourite places to wile away an evening.
No need for Google maps for this one – locating Suburb SW11 is easy breezy; at only a 2 minute walk from Clapham Junction Station. Hurrah. Everything about the design of this venue is bar 'goals'. Boasting an industrial look, with a bright colour scheme, simplistic modern furniture, and hanging lantern lights so beautiful you'll be legging it to IKEA. Not before finishing your delightful cocktail, that you nabbed for a fiver in happy hour, mind. You can also get your nom on at Suburb, so relax in their cosy dining space and enjoy burgers, sandwiches, light bites, sweet treats or even a fondue platter for some super social eats. As they're an independent bar, Suburb make it very clear that they're all about the customer service too, and the venue is all the more fantastic for it. We love these guys.

Let's be honest, a bar really isn't a bar without a happy hour and Suburb SW11 call theirs 'Happy Hour And A Half', where all drinks are half price from 5pm until 7pm (and cocktails until 10pm Sunday to Thursday.) With a wide range of inventive cocktails, you might be swayed by their signature 'flaming sharing cocktails' – made with cider or Belgian beer, and then flambéed with Cognac and Grand Marnier. Of course it's not your typical drink, but it's the creativity of the drinks and details that make this bar stand out. Food is equally exciting, their fondue made with two types of Swiss cheese, served with potatoes, bread, and broccoli, as well as other unusual dishes such as a duck a l'orange burger, raclettes (aka open sandwiches) nachos, bruschettas, skewers, salads and charcuterie. We were particularly fond of the breaded coconut prawns, though, so get stuck into those! As for music, they have their very own resident DJ spinning some get up and dance worthy tunes until 2am every Friday and Saturday.
Suburb attracts quite a few locals, but of course you do get those who just come down to Clapham to check out what this stand-alone venue has to offer. We love that Suburb has no other branches, actually. It certainly makes the journey seem worthwhile. A bit like when you go abroad and spot a chocolate bar that you can't get back home. It just makes it taste better, doesn't it? Not only that, but Suburb also addresses the imbalance of clubs and bars in the area, adding another gem to the South West nightlife landscape. East and West London seem to have all the fun. We mean seriously, do they have any idea how much an Uber home from Oxford Circus costs us!?
We think it's pretty smart (and hilarious) how they got us to cook our own steaks and make it a selling point. Well done Suburb. Not only that, but it truly is a breath of fresh air to bar enthusiasts everywhere when a new venue with such a unique take on things comes to town. Suburb is the perfect venue for cocktails with the girls, unusual and exciting grub to inspire conversation over a first date or even post-work wind down bevvys with the office mob. Just try not to get over excited by fantastic cocktail menu, because those steak searing slabs reach near 350 degrees. You may feel invincible after 3 frozen margaritas here, but we think even the human torch would wake up in worlds of pain after grazing that.
